When people are looking to work with anyone, the first thing they tend to do is look them up online. If it’s not a company they’ve heard of before, they’ll most likely scroll down to the reviews section and see what former clients have to say about that business.

If you’re a new or smaller business, you may not have many reviews, if any. If you don’t have reviews, people might be wary of working with you because they don’t know whether or not you can be trusted. So how do you go about getting reviews?

How to Solicit Reviews from Customers

For some companies, reviews come in naturally, but in most cases, you’ll have to put yourself out there and make it known that you’re trying to get more reviews. Fortunately, that isn’t too hard to do. You can usually ask your customers for them outright. Just explain to them that you need more reviews and ask that if they liked the service you provided, they leave you one.

The catch? Most people completely forget about it by the time they leave your building. To solve this issue, try setting up a text or email campaign reminding them to leave you a review. Don’t spam them or overdo it; request it plainly. Another thing you can do if you have a google business profile is getting a link to a reviews page.

Other Ways to Get Reviews

Alternatively, you could ask them to leave a review before leaving the building so they won’t forget. There’s another essential thing to include in reviews and replies – keywords. For example, a restaurant would likely have many reviews with food-related words in them. Any type of SEO or keywords in the reply is optimal because it makes it easier for Google to find you when people search for things relating to your business.

When replying to reviews, you also want to include those keywords in an organic way. Rather than just typing in a generic “thank you,” make it relevant to what they said in the review. You want to make the client feel grateful that you took the time out of your day to respond to them, just like they took the time out of their day to leave you a review.
