How do insurance companies define Florida Day Care Insurance?
Pre-schools teach very young children to prepare them for elementary school. They also provide day care services for working parents. These are Florida schools that work with children who are not yet old enough for kindergarten. Florida Day Care Insurance can help protect you from many possible risks.
Property exposure comes from equipment and wiring. Nursery school wiring should be up to code. Nobody should be able to override circuit breakers and fuse boxes. Paper and other items that help spread fire are often plentiful. Fire can easily damage most equipment. Cooking on the premises increases the potential for fire loss.

What risk exposure can I cover with Florida Day Care Insurance?
Crime exposures
Crime exposure comes from Employee Dishonesty. Keep job duties such as ordering, billing and disbursement separate, and reconcile them on a regular basis. Conduct audits at least annually.
Inland marine exposure comes from Accounts Receivable, Computers and Valuable Papers (student records). Make duplicates of all data and store them off the premises. Mobile equipment may also move between classrooms.
Premises liability
Exposure is extremely high when you care for young children. Ask yourself these questions. What is the adult/child ratio? Are there regular evacuation drills? Is there a procedure for every emergency? Are instructors and aides trained to use it? Are all adults’ references checked and a criminal background check run? Is the building locked, with limited access, to prevent kidnapping and children escaping?
Also evaluate carefully how children are delivered, picked up and released to adults. Playground equipment and exposures are critical. So are the safety and protection of the children.
Abuse and Molestation
Consider this exposure whenever you supervise children. There is never coverage for the abuser. The institution where abuse takes place has some coverage, but it is very restricted. Buy more complete Florida coverage for the institution through specialized markets.
The institution must take all possible care to protect students from predatory adults and older students. It can do this through background checks, monitoring and supervision. It must also report all allegations of abuse to the proper authorities. The more vulnerable the potential victim, the more vigilant the institution must be.
Automobile liability
Automobile liability is a major concern. It carries a high potential for loss or injury whenever you transport students, faculty or visitors. All drivers must have the appropriate license to transport children. Check MVRs on a regular basis. Is there supervision on the vehicles during transport? Keep all vehicles well maintained, and keep the records at a central location.
Workers compensation
Back injuries, lifting, hernias, sprains and strains can all be concerns. Review the types of activities you provide and the exposure to the social environment of the facility. Again, security is an issue.

What is the price of Daycare insurance?
Each child care business is priced on its own details. The biggest factors are the ones our quote form asks about:
- The type of facility and where it’s located
- How many children you’re licensed for and your average daily attendance
- The children’s ages and any special needs
- Play equipment, a pool or animals on the premises
- Special classes, overnight stays and before- or after-school programs
- Whether you provide transportation
- Whether you want sexual abuse and molestation coverage
- Your payroll
- The liability limits you want
- Your claims history
Send us those details through the quote form and we’ll compare options from the insurance companies we represent.
Is insurance for Daycare required in Florida?
Yes, in two ways. If your center transports children, Florida’s Child Care Facility Handbook requires the vehicles to carry the insurance set by Section 316.615(4), Florida Statutes: single-limit liability coverage of $5,000 times the vehicle’s seating capacity, or $100,000, whichever is greater.
Florida also requires workers’ compensation once you have four or more employees, counting owners who are corporate officers or LLC members (Florida Division of Workers’ Compensation).
What other insurance should a Daycare consider?
Commercial Property, Employee Dishonesty, Accounts Receivable, Computers, Mobile Equipment, Valuable Papers, General Liability, Employee Benefits, Umbrella, Commercial Auto, Workers Compensation
