What Should I Expect from a Business Coach?

Published On -
If you’re looking for a business coach for the first time, you might not know what to expect. Going into it blind can make it challenging to ensure you’re getting the right business coach or getting everything you need from them, so here are a few things that you can expect when looking into hiring a business coach.
How Do I Choose a Business Coach?
The first step in this process will be the discovery and consultation step. Essentially, you will have to look around and find a few candidates you think might be the right fit for your business. From there, you’re going to need to do your research. Read reviews, check out their websites, and get to know what you can about them. Once you have that information, you can narrow it down and select which one to work with.
After you decide that, it’s time for the initial consulting call. This is usually a free 10 to 15-minute call during which you and your new business coach will learn more about each other. In a way, it’s a time for you to interview them and ask questions about what you need to know about them.
There will typically be some forms and paperwork that will need to be taken care of. It usually takes at least three months to start seeing results. To tie you in for those three months, many business coaches will offer package deals. This isn’t necessarily bad if you’re 100% sure this is the business coach you want and you end up working well together.
What if I don’t Like My Coach?
On the other hand, being trapped with a business coach can be detrimental if you don’t work well together. Another thing to remember is that not everyone will need a business coach all the time, and you might not need to work with anyone. If you don’t have anything specific that you want to fix about your business and how it’s running, then there really isn’t anything you can gain by hiring a business coach.
Therefore, one of the first things the new business coach should ask you is what you hope to get from hiring them. They should be trying to gain information about what brought you to them in the first place. If they don’t, they won’t know what it is they’re supposed to be helping you with, and that’s a bit of a red flag.
