Who is marina insurance for?
Florida marina insurance is for marina type operations. For example, businesses that store, moor or launch vessels. There’s no such thing as a one-size-fits all marina insurance policy. Coverage must be customized to meet your specific needs. For instance, marinas, boat dealers and yacht clubs have different needs. As well can boat builders and yacht brokers.
Have a Quick Question?
What is the price of marina insurance?
There’s no single price, because insurers rate each marina on its own details. The biggest factors are the ones our quote form asks about: the services you provide (engine, electrical, fiberglass, painting, rigging, hauling, towing and so on); whether you work on commercial vessels or boats over 100 feet; the value of the vessels you work on and store; storage, rentals, diving and mobile work; your number of employees, payroll and sales; whether you use subcontractors and whether they’re insured; the liability limits you want; how long you’ve been in business; and your claims history.
Send us those details through the quote form and we’ll compare options from the insurance companies we represent.
Is boat repair insurance the same as marina insurance?
No. Though marinas may have boat repairers employed. The insurance for boat repair or marine service is for businesses that repair or maintain boats and yachts. Not the storage, mooring or launching. Marina insurance can be more complex because they typically include many things.

Is insurance required in Florida?
Florida requires workers’ compensation once a marina has four or more employees. Owners who are corporate officers or LLC members count toward that number; sole proprietors and partners don’t, unless they choose to be covered (Florida Division of Workers’ Compensation).
Federal Longshore Act coverage can also apply to work on navigable waters and docks. Marina employees are excluded if they’re covered by state workers’ compensation, unless they work on building, replacing or expanding the marina (routine maintenance aside). Recreational vessel repair is excluded on the same condition (U.S. Department of Labor).
What other insurance might marinas require?
Depending on the type of the business, you will likely need separate coverage for things like owned boats or barges, employees, commercial automobiles and flood insurance. For example, a basic policy may only include options for harbor insurance, marine employers liability, marina operator’s legal liability, and pollution.
It is important to talk to an agent about the details of your business so you can evaluate insurance options that match your business’s needs.
