Frequently Asked Questions

Who is Texas boat repair insurance for?

It is important for marinas and other boat-related businesses. Services covered may include painting, cleaning, refitting, boat repair, detailing, upholstery, carpentry, canvas work, electronics, engine mechanic work, fiberglass work and underwater bottom cleaning.

It is not only for boat repair shops. It also includes many mobile marine services for repair, fueling and detailing.

What does it cost?

Packages for small marine artisan businesses begin as low as $1,500. Large businesses with many employees and customers pay more. The cost is related to your volume of business and the services you offer.

Is boat repair insurance the same as marina insurance?

No. Marinas may have boat repairers or mechanics employed, but boat repair insurance is generally for businesses that repair and maintain boats and yachts, not for storing, mooring or launching vessels. Marina insurance is typically more complex and can be quite a bit more expensive.

Is insurance for a marine service shop required in Texas?

Texas is the only state where most private employers can choose not to carry workers’ compensation. Employers that opt out must notify their employees and the state, and they lose the law’s limits on what injured employees can sue for (Texas Department of Insurance).

Federal Longshore Act coverage applies to covered work on navigable waters and adjoining docks. Repairing recreational vessels is excluded only if the workers are covered by state workers’ compensation, so a Texas employer without it may need Longshore coverage even for recreational boats (U.S. Department of Labor).

Can you provide insurance anywhere in Texas?
