Have a Quick Question?

What risk exposure do Auto Dealers have?

Physical Damage Exposure
To the vehicles can occur from wind, storm, theft, vandalism and fire. Premises liability
considerations need to be given to the customers who are on premises to view or inspect vehicles. Florida parking lots, showrooms and sidewalks must be well maintained. Automobile liability concerns may be high.

Property exposures
Is generally limited to a shelter house or trailer and is more an office exposure. If there is a
garage operation, the exposure would be more similar to an auto repair operation. Inland marine exposure comes from the Accounts Receivable especially if the lot carries its own accounts and accepts payments at the lot. This also adds to the Valuable Papers exposure. Sign coverage also may be a concern.

Crime Exposure
Is from Employee Dishonesty and Money and Securities. Employees must be monitored and procedures should be in place for cash handling. There is a holdup exposure due to the frequent cash arrangements and some payment on location. Frequent deposits should be made, and there should be arrangements with a security company for escorts on busy exposure times.

Premises Liability
Exposures are on the lot. Trip and fall hazards must be kept to a minimum in Florida. Lots should be well
lighted, and pavement or gravel should be even.

Automobile exposures
Is from the used cars. They may be test-driven and used by employees for errands
and overnight. Controls must be in place and each driver must have a valid license.
Vehicles on the lot are subject to wind, hail, vandalism and theft. All lots should be fenced or chained off after hours.

Lots should be well lighted. More expensive items should be under some protective cover in case of hail.
Workers compensation is minimal unless there are garage operations. There is a holdup potential due to cash on
hand. Some monitoring and controls are important. This can help control the cost of auto dealer insurance.
